In recent years, it has become clearer that treatment of catastrophic events that affect an individual
must include the body as an essential part of the healing process. In Somatic Experiencing, a therapeutic
process that accesses the core of the trauma, the assumption is that the injury lives in the nervous system,
not the event.
Without access to this core of blocked energy, the individual may experience symptoms like anxiety or depression
when there doesn't appear to be a cause. Sleeplessness and a sense of hopelessness may undermine the person's
ability to enjoy life to the fullest. Over time, other physical symptoms may appear as the trauma goes untreated.
There is a way to resolve this! The slow, careful pacing of Somatic Experiencing therapy allows the individual
to utilize the wisdom of the body to assist in the work of healing.
