Finding Your Voice

Ihave come to believe that our natural voice is truly a gift, and to use it is our birthright. Our voice gives us the ability to make all kinds of sounds: to sing, speak, and literally create frequency. With this instrument we are able to express our creativity, touch the power that can come through us, to call for what we need, and soothe ourselves just as a mother instinctively coos to her baby. Non-verbal tones are a universal language that allows us to communicate with all life forms. Nature loves to sing!

Many people have spoken to me of a nagging sense that their voice is not expressed in its fullness. For example, one woman came to a seminar of mine complaining that she had had numerous experiences where the caller on the other end of the phone asked to speak to her mother. Even though her body had continued to mature into womanhood, it was as though her voice had become frozen at a certain age and no longer grew with the rest of her. Sometimes the lack of full vocal expression is an awareness of holding back spontaneous urges to say what one wants to say or as a sense that one’s spoken word does not “land” or seem to impact others. Too often I have been sadly told of a longing to sing but never feeling permission from one’s self or others to do so. . With rare exception, children who have been laughed at and told that they can’t carry a tune shut down their voices. They stop playing. It’s not safe.

Finding Your Voice
is an experiential process. It is improvisational by nature, gentle in approach, and is directed by the wisdom of the body. Together we co-create an environment where it is safe to open up, let go and explore. Making sounds and tones expands our ability to receive, moves stuck emotions, releases holding and pain in the physical body, frees passion and creativity, and energizes our bodies to a cellular level.
